1996’s Dr. Octagonecologyst is a foundational album for me. I remember hearing this as a freshman in college and thinking, “I had no idea that hip-hop could be this”. In this case, “this” referred to the stream-of-consciousness medical horror show put out by Kool Keith, Dan the Automator, and DJ Q-Bert. There is no shortage of great tracks on this record, so I went with what struck me the most today. “Technical Difficulties” is a strong contender for weirdest track on an album full of unhinged mania, and God I love it. Yo, Chief Administrator, suck my oil.
